A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android

Welcome to Source of Mana

Source of Mana is a classic 2D MMORPG that blends the nostalgic charm of retro RPGs with modern gameplay enhancements. Set in a rich fantasy world, the game invites you to embark on epic adventures, discover new lands, battle fierce enemies, and forge friendships along the way. With its pixel art style and engaging story, Source of Mana captures the essence of timeless RPGs while introducing fresh elements that make the experience feel both familiar and new.

Source of Mana uses Godot 4 for its client and server components. Our graphics are made with a variety of tools, primarily Gimp, as well as Tiled for maps. Development is heavily focused on establishing a solid technical foundation, including advanced client-server synchronization, efficient asset management, and support for a wide range of devices. We welcome contributors of all types of skills and would especially welcome pixel artists and programmers (any language, we mainly use GDScript).

SoM is in the very early stages of development and new updates will keep coming out. Stay tuned and join us on Discord or IRC to discuss the project!

I've been following this project for a few months and I just have to say I LOVE THE PROGRESS THAT IS BEING MADE, EVERYONE WORKING ON THIS IS DOING SUCH A GREAT JOB AND I LOVE THE FACT IT'S OPEN SOURCE. please keep up with the great and amazing work, I'm so proud of everyone working on this, I hope everyone who works on this game and is reading this will have an amazing day. I hope all is well, thank you for making this game, and making it open source, it means a lot to newer devs like me :)

Emote and Minimap buttons are both toggling the minimap.

I clicked an emote, and it messed up my movement with the arrow keys. It looked like the chat box was activated, and it wouldn't deactivate. Toggling it on and off fixed it. Mouse movement control still worked, but it seemed to be off-target.

Thanks for your feedback!
I've experienced this issue some days ago as well.
Considering it's not a deal breaker I will leave it this way for the 0.0.2 release but it will soon be fixed for the next one!
Did you find any other big issue?
Right now we have noted the lack of animated tiles and the navigation with mouse that is only working correctly on the first map, both are known issues that will be fixed on the next release as well.

Hey wanted to test the game but i think the linux version might be messed up as ive started at level 52 in a random area with no sense of direction or is this intended ?

You're seeing the same thing I see. I am on windows. I think basically the game just doesn't have any content yet. It has a few other maps/rooms you can walk around in, but as far as I can tell there is nothing else to do at the moment. I've been checking for updates every couple days, they'll pump something out for us eventually.

Heya!
Yes right now we are working on improving the game client, the project is open source and you can follow the progress of the next version here: https://gitlab.com/sourceofmana/sourceofmana/-/tree/godot4
We also discuss about it on our discord group, feel free to join us there!

Any time spent in the real world, hahaha. Wow, you nailed it. I hope I get to see where this is heading.

Thanks! We might do more fun exit messages, people seem to enjoy them a lot :P
